All smiles for The Boathouse Dental Surgery

National Smile MonthNational Smile Month is coming to Goring. The Boathouse Dental Surgery will be holding a special event to support the UK’s biggest oral health campaign.

Taking place from 16 May to 16 June, National Smile Month aims to promote and raise awareness of good oral health and The Boathouse team are getting involved in doing just that!

To show their support, the team from The Boathouse along with local businesses in Goring will be holding a “Smileathon” that aims to put the smile into National Smile Month. All you need to do is post a “smiley selfie” supplied by The Boathouse to @smilemonth #smileathon #MySmileySelfie on Facebook and Twitter.

Or if you are camera shy, why not drop your old toothbrush into the practice.   The team will donate a new toothbrush to the Mercy Ships charity for every “smiley selfie” posted or donated old toothbrush.

Mercy Ships are a team of nurses, doctors, surgeons, and other crew members from all over the world, donating their time to help on board the world’s largest non-governmental floating hospital. As a floating hospital, they can sail directly to some of the world’s poorest people to deliver life-saving medical care and provide safe, state-of-the-art facilities in which to treat them.

Dr Atul Kothari from The Boathouse said: “We love taking part in National Smile Month and supporting a worthwhile cause. That is why we are having a “Smileathon” involving local businesses in the Goring area and at the same time having some fun. Good oral health is vital for a healthy smile as well as a healthy body, and we’ll be spreading that message throughout NSM.”

Chief Executive of the Oral Health Foundation, Dr Nigel Carter OBE said: “I’m delighted that The Boathouse Dental Surgery has joined the thousands of organisations in engaging with National Smile Month. It is a great reflection of local community spirit and an excellent way to promote good oral health.

By making an event as fun and imaginative as possible, we hope it will inspire more people to join in the fun than ever before while delivering the Oral Health Foundation’s three key messages for good oral health; brush for two minutes twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks and visit the dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.”
